Project WeCan

Young Innovators Bazaar 2019

The 3-day Young Innovators Bazaar 2019 was hold on 22-24 March 2019 at Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill.  The Kick-off Ceremony was held on 22 March with the presence of Mr Stephen Ng, Chairman of Project WeCan Committee, as the guest of honour. Representatives from corporations, Consulates, universities and organisations also came to support the event.

This year, 63 schools and more than 1,000 secondary students set up attractive booths at Plaza Hollywood and sold various products, including a number of upcycling and DIY products like leather tag for luggage, soap made of coffee grounds, candle, lamps, visa card holder made from packaged drinks, hand held fans, DIY accessories and cookies.

This is the 7th consecutive year for our Project WeCan partner school, Ng Yuk Secondary School, to join the bazaar and learn leadership, entrepreneurship, project management, communication, marketing and sales outside the classroom setting.  Together with the support of Wheelock’s volunteers, the students were able to run their own business and adopted different strategies to attract customers. The school sold four types of aromatic coffee beans from Ethiopia, Guatemala and Colombia, coffee beans grinder, coffee pot, coffee dripper, coaster, and DIY tray upcycled from the unused wooden floor for school hall to promote the culture of specialty coffee.

Mr. Ricky Wong, Managing Director of Wheelock Properties, sponsored approximately 30 students and teachers of Fresh Fish Trader’s Primary School and senior citizens from Services Centre for the Elderly in the vicinity to visit the bazaar. Wheelock’s volunteers played games and went shopping around the bazaar with the students and the senior citizens for their favorite products.
