Project WeCan

Young Innovators Bazaar 2018

The Young Innovators Bazaar 2018 concluded successfully on 21 January 2018 at Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill.  The Kick-off Ceremony was held on 19 January with the presence of Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration, as the guest of honour and Mr Stephen Ng, Chairman of Project WeCan Committee.  Representatives from corporations, Consulates, universities and organisations also came to support the event.

The theme of this year’s Bazaar was Green and Innovation. Students were encouraged to practice “use less, waste less” from the initial stage of business planning to the final product sales.  This year, 42 schools set up attractive booths at Plaza Hollywood and sold more than 200 products, including a number of  upcycling products like “Vintage Jewelry Clocks” made from recycled metals, scented pouch made of coffee grounds, eco enzyme, red pockets made from packaged drinks, quilling lamps made from old wooden furniture, DIY accessories.

The aim of Young Innovators Bazaar is to develop students’ skill sets in leadership, entrepreneurship, project management, communication, marketing and sales outside the classroom setting.  Corporate partners and volunteers would pass on business knowledge and experience through talks and workshops organised by Project WeCan.  Together with the support of over 110 university students who are also WeCan Scholars, secondary school students were able to run their own business from scratch at the Bazaar.
