Hong Kong Photo Contest 2022 - visual storytelling for Hong Kong official launch

05 Oct 2022

A city of fascinating charm that captivates explorers from all over the world with its East-West cultural fusion, natural mixture of urban areas and countryside, and world-class geological wonders that are just a stone’s throw away from the bustling city, Hong Kong has always been a source of inspiration for many photographers. To nurture potential and talented photographers, the Hong Kong Photo Contest 2022 invites entries from photography enthusiasts worldwide.

Organized by National Geographic Magazine (Traditional Chinese Edition) and presented by Wheelock Properties, the annual photography contest has been organized for the sixth time in a row. The categories of this year are landscape, wildlife, city, people, mobile photography, and short video, aiming to stimulate creativity and encourage contestants to uncover the beauty of the city, people, and nature, and heartwarming tales from a brand-new perspective. Either in the form of pictures or videos taken with cameras or mobile phones, entries should spotlight the unique glamour of Hong Kong.

Through this annual photography contest, we hope to thrust photographers’ skills to a level comparable to international standards. Workshops and seminars led by experienced photographers will be hosted during the contest in order to improve contestants’ skills while bringing photography lovers together to share their experiences and insight.

"In the past three years, numerous large-scale events and competitions have been canceled due to COVID-19. National Geographic Magazine Traditional Chinese Edition is grateful that with the support of Wheelock, the Hong Kong Photo Contest has never been interrupted since 2017. After five years of accumulation, not only has the number of entries and the quality of the entries continued to improve, but the popularity and recognition of the Contest have also gradually built up, encouraging us to move forward and enter the sixth year proudly this year." says Ivan Tsoi, the Chief Operating Officer of Boulder Media Inc, which is the licensee for National Geographic Magazine Traditional Chinese Edition.

Tsoi adds, "This year's Contest will build on past successes and would like to encourage our contestants to participate in the short video category, a short video within 120 seconds, to interpret the unique glamour of Hong Kong. Its unique East-meets-West culture, a natural mixture of urban and countryside, and the inspiring Hong Kong story. The Contest is the perfect place to showcase their talents and achieve their dreams."

“As a unique international city, Hong Kong is where the East meets the West, boasting the prosperity of city and the serenity of countryside. Everywhere is filled with different local stories. We’re honoured to have partnered with National Geographic Magazine Traditional Chinese Edition for the sixth year in the Hong Kong Photo Contest 2022. Running this major event in photography, we’ve helped more talented photographers realise their dreams and hope that the contest, together with the series of workshops and exhibitions in the future, can keep everyone connected to the city with more love and care, while reminding them to appreciate the vibrant and fascinating landscape and stories in their surroundings,” said Managing Director of Wheelock Properties Ricky Wong.

To celebrate the success of ‘Hong Kong Photo Contest’ in the past 5 years, we will host the 5th anniversary ‘Hong Kong Photo Contest’ exhibition in late October. It will be the first time to showcase the winning art pieces from 2017 to 2022. Come and visit us to reminisce story of Hong Kong of the past 5 years.
